is there a way to subscribe to a blog so you get e-mail when someone else posts? I get e-mail if someone comments on my own blog.

If there is not a feature like this. Blogger sucks!

church mystery idea

Ok, but for most of the book we should make it look like the father/boardmember guy was just selling out his daughter so he could control miniscule aspects of the church... We don't reveal the other plot until later.

AND they fall in love for real as they solve the mystery.

THEN: when they catch him, they eat his heart together.

THEN!!!: they realize that they had it all wrong. That he was only pretending to be controlling the church (as a cover for dumping his waste) so he could foil an alien plot to destroy earth. The aliens were growing a bioweapon on the ranch and the father's team of crack scientists discovered that the only way to stop them was to use this "chemical waste" material--which was really a sythesized anit-weapon for the bio-weapon.

So her dad was a hero, but it's too late. They already ate his heart.

Then they realize that they are brother and sister. They are kind of grossed out, but surprisingly, not that much. After all, they have have both just eaten their innocent (heroic) father's heart.

Also... the organist is a a robot. No one knows this except the ancient church secretary who puts a nickle in the slot every Sunday morning. One Sunday she puts in a canadian nickle. The organist goes haywire and starts singing Ozzy Osborn songs during the sermon. This is foreshadowing for things to come in the second book.

And could there be a talking dog? Or maybe a dog that just knows basic sign language? And if we could find such a dog, could it help us write the book? I've known some dogs that had some pretty good ideas (also some bad ones, but really down to earth).

Mystery Stories In Churches....

What if....

(this one's for you, Dad.)

A late twenties pastor of a church the size of the Perry Church in a town the size of Perry but with a board that was more like Grace Gospel...

realized that his wife (of three years) wasn't chronically unhappy as a rule, she was chronically unhappy because she feels trapped in their marraige.

As he pushes on the boards in this (metaphorical) attic, he finds out that the (again metaphorical) secret room is that she felt pressured by her father -- a wealthy local industrialist in the congregation -- to marry the preacher. Only the pressure was subtle enough that she didn't even recognize it until well into the engagement. Then she was carried along by the process.

Obviously they disbelieve each other and work against each other for several chapters to disbelieve and disprove this ridiculous theory. Why would her father want her to marry him enough to plot dubiously about it? She regrets having told him her evidence -- because its shaky and unstable at best. And she tries to think better of it later -- only now the preacher won't let her. Until he convinces her and then he feels guilty and tries to think better of it.

Of course the turning point of the book is when the father approaches the daughter to suggest that the church buy a certain piece of land as an investment to maybe develop as a camp someday or something.......

the relationship between Preacher and Daughter is strained enough that she doesn't tell him right away. She wants to find out for herself what her father is up to....

then...?

Of course her father is dumping chemicals or something on the Teen Ranch Property...

Welcome to the Mystery Spot

My idea is that we spend the first while of our mystery story blog just throwing ideas out there.

The first rule of brainstorming is: There are no bad ideas.

The second rule: The MORE ideas the better.

The third rule: "Piggybacking" on other's ideas is not only good, it's ENCOURAGED!

...

One way that I've initiated writing partnerships before is by using the:

"What if...?" game.

What if.....[fill in your mystery scenario]?

Ready, set. post.
